SpeechStudio Lexicon Builder creates custom
vocabularies and pronunciations for text-to-speech, speech
recognition, Office XP, or any program that uses a SAPI 5 speech engine.
SpeechStudio Lexicon Builder optimizes the
process of creating custom dictionary entries. Proper names, jargon,
abbreviations, acronyms, symbols, and foreign words can all cause problems.
Lexicon Builder handles all of these cases with ease, including company
names and occupation-specific words.
More Accurate Dictation
Speech recognition is dependent on a number of
factors, such as computing horsepower, microphone quality, and user training.
However, even when each of these components is optimized, dictation will fail to
recognize words that are not in the lexicon. Worse, dictation will misrecognized
your speech and insert
incorrect words into the document.
A typical user will commonly use over 300 words which are not in the
Office XP speech recognition dictionary. These words range from company names to
jargon. These words can be entered as they are misrecognized, one at a
time. This process is time-consuming and frustrating. So not only will you spend hours correcting and entering data, you will
be frustrated, leading to stress, which in turn causes more problems for dictation because
successful dictation depends on a calm and steady speaking style.
Improved Text-to-Speech
Programs that read text
or convert text to MP3s are using speech synthesis, also known as
text-to-speech. If you listen to e-mail,
web pages, e-books, or documents, or if you use a screen reader, your computer is
probably using
text-to-speech.
Computers use a built-in dictionary to pronounce words. When a word isn't in the
dictionary, the computer uses letter-to-sound rules to create
pronunciations. If a word is pronounced incorrectly, either in the
dictionary or with letter-to-sound rules, it
will always be mispronounced until you add the correct pronunciation to the
dictionary.
Creates a Custom Dictionary
Lexicon Builder is able to create a custom
dictionary that is tuned specifically for your vocabulary. You can
enter words manually or you can use Lexicon Builder to
search your existing documents for words that are not in the speech
dictionary.
Then, with the help of the Pronunciation
Wizard, Lexicon Builder guides you through the process of updating the
speech dictionary. The Wizard's unique "sounds like" process helps you
craft pronunciations without cryptic phonetic spellings; however, you can
directly enter and test SAPI 5 phonemes if you wish.
You can listen to words and their
pronunciations at any time. When you are satisfied with your choices,
you can update the speech dictionary with the press of a button. The
end result is an updated dictionary that combines your vocabulary with the
built-in dictionary of Office XP.
Lexicon Builder includes utilities to view,
clean, backup, and restore the contents of the user lexicon.
